Dream Performance Makeover
A Collaboration with Leslie Lawrence & Sophia SimenskyAbout Public Universal Television
Public Universal Television is a new art performance series by Leslie Lawrence & Sophia Simensky, developing their practice of performing the artistic production of popular media in co-operation with their audience. Residing in the former theosophical temple of Amsterdam, they have created an esoteric society of video makers looking at news ways to make co-operative media. For each performance they co-operate with a different artist, making them the guest host of a new tv show, the filming of which is then staged for the live audience as a piece of performance art.
Episode 4: Dream Performance Makeover
Taking the history of endurance art as its ‘problem to fix’, Dream Performance Makeover is a fictional TV show hosted by Demelza Watts that attempts to make over famous works of performance art. The Performance artworks, such as Marina Abramovich’s The Artist is Present, Chris Burden’s Trans-Fixed and Vito Acconci’s Seedbed, get a makeover to become performances that centre on care, affection and kindness, rather than endurance, suffering and pain.
Public Universal Television is supported by the AFK (Amsterdam Fund for the Arts) & Mondriaan Fonds
